A doula is a specially trained support person, trained and experienced in support during the childbearing years, some, like myself, provide support for preconception, loss/terminations,and through to GYN care.
For my liability, I do require that families hire a provider, if that is for homebirth or hospital birth. If planning an unassisted birth I have recommendations for doulas that attend unassisted.
ABSOLUTELY. listen, my twins were csection and it was so incredibly empowering for me to hold my head high as I danced into the OR. I love to help families understand the process and customize their big day to highlight the beauty of belly birth as I alleviate some of the anxieties that come along with major surgery, AND meeting your baby!
Do YOU WANT to breastfeed? no? OK! lets talk about bottles, how to properly prepare infant formula, baby feeding habits, cues, and drying the milk. -and- I have a cool chart for you to track feeds!
Typically a doula comes in and cares for the whole family, the same way that the best auntie, best friend, would, while a nanny cares only for the little ones and does some light meal prep. Common postpartum doula tasks are- meal planning and prep, folding or hanging laundry, replenishing parent snack stash, collecting mail, sitting with baby while parents shower or eat, and most importantly-chatting and checking in.
